Our next Greenhouse Group meeting will be Tuesday, March 18th from 7:30-8:30 PM at the Trinity Recreation Centre. Thanks to all who gave input on our application to the city for permission to run the greenhouse as a community. .

Greenhouse Manager
Martin Rudd has volunteered to be our greenhouse manager. Thanks Martin! Martin can be contacted at mr.mrudd@rogers.com.

I think we can safely say that the greenhouse will be open by Thursday, March 20th, the first day of spring. Green Force TV is still working on a final hook-up of the electrical system to the solar panels on the roof of the Rec. Centre.

BURDOCK ALERT

BURDOCK ALERT! BURDOCK ALERT!

If you've ever had to cut burdock burrs out of your dog's coat, your kid's hair or your own socks you know how irritating they are. Here's your chance to get back at them.

The prickly Burdock weeds are already in bloom and it's now or never for cutting them down at ground level. Our Parks staff are spread thin around the city and it seems unlikely they will be able to revisit the park in the next few days but we can make a difference.

Latest rogue art in park - tree installation

Every now and again our park is the recipient of the most interesting 'rogue' art installations. This one showed up last week. Reminded me of the stuff I did in school days, with nails on a flat board. This takes it to another level all together. It's quite a piece of work and can't imagine how long it took. Very innovative.

Though the Friends have some concern for this particular installation (see images) because of the nails driven in the tree trunk. There are tons of them and there is potential for damage to the tree - and we wouldn't want that, nor, we hope would the artist. We consulted the gentleman that did the Park inventory and is a professional arbourist who said,

G20 related events in our Park

Hello all, things are moving fast in regards to any G20 events in park and we're dancing as fast as we can. There is some misinformation, conflicting facts which are causing confusion and concern. We are trying to keep on top of things. The Trinity Bellwoods Community Association is having a meeting Thursday May 6th at 7pm at the Rec. Centre. This is the meeting to go to as crucial information will be known at that point. See you at meeting - keep you posted. Thanks.

PARK CLEAN UP DAY success!

Clean Up Day this Saturday April 24th was a great success! We had lots of our regular faces and new ones, yay, which was really wonderful. Thank you everyone for coming - and all the Ward 19 candidates too - it makes such a difference and park is more enjoyable and safe being trash free. We can also thank Parks too, as prior they took the bulk of it. FYI, the most common trash noted by participants - ciggarette butts. Nasty. Please encourage your fellow citizens to not litter in our Park.

Spring Park Day May 16th!

Don't Pave Our Park Petition - Update!

Thanks to your support, over 100 people signed the Don't Pave Our Park petition in under one week. We forwarded the results to Councilor Pantalone and the City on March 5th.

Councillor Pantalone responded (attached below) and indicated that "I insisted that Cycling Infrastructure “go back to the drawing board” to reformulate the proposed multi-use path upgrade. They will be looking at changes to the final design that incorporate and address resident concerns such as: maintaining green space, minimizing the intensity, speed, and amount of cycling traffic, and options for path surfaces. I am advocating that the proposed path be not even one inch wider."
