Let's hear it for Patagonia -- they approached FoTBP about doing some volunteer work in the park over the year and we showed them some of the kinds of things that neighbors and other park users have taken on in recent years.

Things such as trying to keep the burdock under control, watering the newly planted trees, picking up litter, weeding garden beds -- all those things that the City budget doesn't seem quite big enough to control. (Ironic, isn't it that City Council is considering further cuts to the Parks budget?)
At any rate, Patagonia has a policy of give-back to the neighborhoods where their stores are and our park has benefited. They have a program where they pay staff (aka "interns") to go out and help on environmental projects. The staff at the new King St West store applied for and got support for helping out at Trinity Bellwoods and at LEAF.
So BIG thanks to the Patagonia staff that have been coming out once a week over the summer to the park and beating back the burdock and watering four of the five new London Plane trees up near the Farmer's Market. With your help, we hope to someday have the invasive burdock under control and will enjoy the shady canopy of the London Planes.

Et voila -- le burdock c'est ne pas ici...
