Dog Waste diversion project coming in June!
Did you know that dog poop accounts for up to 27 per cent of the waste collected in our Parks?
Starting in early June, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, in partnership with Solid Waste Management Services, is aiming to launch a second pilot project to divert dog waste in selected parks across the city - Trinity Bellwood being top of their list.
Once again, in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic bags in the green bin materials processing facility and minimize the environmental impacts, paper products are the only accepted method of disposing pet waste for the Green Bin Pilot.
On Saturday May 30th a benefit for the children of Darfur, Drummers for Darfur, will be taking place along the streets of Queen Street and parading through your neighborhood.
This fundraising event will benefit War Child Canada’s program in Darfur, a Canadian charity based here in Toronto. Spearheaded by drummer Dave Clark (Rheostatics), the event will start at Grange Park, parading along Queen St. West, and culminating for an all out drum fest at Trinity Bellwoods Park.
War Child Canada is one of two Canadian aid agencies still operational in Darfur after the expulsion of 13 vital humanitarian agencies from the region in March. The need to ensure that children in Darfur receive education, training, and protection from war is now more urgent than ever.
The Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park will be meeting at the Rec Centre (front and/or back entrance) to partake in the Mayor's Annual Community Clean Up Day. It's a great way to welcome the warmer weather and contribute, with your neighbours, towards keeping our Park clean and safe. So come on out, even if for half an hour, every bit counts!
Check in with us for for a designated area to clean up. Or just clean up at will. We'll have garbage bags, but please feel free to bring your own recycled plastic bags from home. Once your bag(s) are filled, bring them to back of the Rec Centre to the main garbage pile.
Look forward to your help! Oh ya, we be doing it rain or shine.
SUNDAY MAY 31st, 10am to 1pm. It's the Friends annual Spring Park Day. Come one, come all to help us mulch and plant our lives away in the park! Rain or shine. For more info contact: greenspace@trinitybellwoods.ca
Hello,
I'm planning a workshop/plant-along this Saturday, March 28 at 1:30 pm in the greenhouse with my community group. We'll need some time to discuss what we're going to grow etc between us but anyone is welcome to come out and start seeds along with us. I'll be going through the basics of seed starting and long term seedling care. I'll also bring along a chart I've drawn up for this year listing what needs to be started when, and walk you through any plants that can be direct seeded outdoors to save shelf space.
I've got a small box of seeds that I am happy to share. I've got a pretty wide variety of seeds; however, we are specifically missing broccoli, cauliflower, and other brassicas so if you have extras to share we would be VERY appreciative.
See you there!
Gayla
