Community Greenhouse - March Update

Next Meeting
Our next Greenhouse Group meeting will be Tuesday, March 18th from 7:30-8:30 PM at the Trinity Recreation Centre. Thanks to all who gave input on our application to the city for permission to run the greenhouse as a community. .

Greenhouse Manager
Martin Rudd has volunteered to be our greenhouse manager. Thanks Martin! Martin can be contacted at mr.mrudd@rogers.com.

Opening
I think we can safely say that the greenhouse will be open by Thursday, March 20th, the first day of spring. Green Force TV is still working on a final hook-up of the electrical system to the solar panels on the roof of the Rec. Centre.

BURDOCK ALERT & ROGUE ART IN PARK

BURDOCK ALERT! BURDOCK ALERT!
If you've ever had to cut burdock burrs out of your dog's coat, your kid's hair or your own socks you know how irritating they are. Here's your chance to get back at them.

The prickly Burdock weeds are already in bloom and it's now or never for cutting them down at ground level. Our Parks staff are spread thin around the city and it seems unlikely they will be able to revisit the park in the next few days but we can make a difference.

Friends SPRING PARK DAY SUNDAY MAY 16th, 10-1pm
Just a little reminder that it's our Annual Spring Park Day! This is ‘in-the-field’ work that is the core of what the Friends are about. There's some mulching (trees & market location) planting and weeding. Also Adopt-A-Tree supah-coordinator, Michaelle will be ever present to answer questions and adopt out some trees. We displayed a great passion for the park recently, so please, all the more reason to come join in the fun. Git your gloves on, bring a shovel or pitch fork if you got ‘em, and spend a few enjoyable hours outdoors in our Park. Everybody welcome.
*Base camp is located under a green canopy with our 'Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park' banner near the playground.

A Blossoming Gift to Trinity Bellwoods Park

If you've noticed, a whole bunch of baby trees have been planted along the paths leading to Queen/Gorevale entrance. Please read about this wonderful gift to our park......

Don't Pave Our Park Petition - Update!

Thanks to your support, over 100 people signed the Don't Pave Our Park petition in under one week. We forwarded the results to Councilor Pantalone and the City on March 5th.

Councillor Pantalone responded (attached below) and indicated that "I insisted that Cycling Infrastructure “go back to the drawing board” to reformulate the proposed multi-use path upgrade. They will be looking at changes to the final design that incorporate and address resident concerns such as: maintaining green space, minimizing the intensity, speed, and amount of cycling traffic, and options for path surfaces. I am advocating that the proposed path be not even one inch wider."

Healthy Future for the Trees of Trinity Bellwoods Park

A Healthy Future for the Trees of Trinity Bellwoods Park

The Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park has been working closely with the City of Toronto for many years to improve the health of the tree canopy and green space in the Park. To better inform future planting decisions and work to re -establish an ‘Arboretum’ status for the Park, the Friends’ have initiated a project this summer to inventory and assess all of the 800+ trees in the Park.
