Every now and again our park is the recipient of the most interesting 'rogue' art installations. This one showed up last week. Reminded me of the stuff I did in school days, with nails on a flat board. This takes it to another level all together. It's quite a piece of work and can't imagine how long it took. Very innovative.
Though the Friends have some concern for this particular installation (see images) because of the nails driven in the tree trunk. There are tons of them and there is potential for damage to the tree - and we wouldn't want that, nor, we hope would the artist. We consulted the gentleman that did the Park inventory and is a professional arbourist who said,
the WITCH of edmonton performance, part of Summer Works Festival.....read on....
In the tightly-knit community of edmonton, mother sawyer is falsely branded as a witch. rejected and shunned, she takes revenge by selling her soul to a demonic hellhound—and as evil and perversion infect the townsfolk, mother sawyer lives up to her new title. this work falls under the genre of eliza-jacobean revenge tragedy, a style of play that poses a formidable challenge to prevailing trends in religion, society, sexuality, and morality. the WITCH of edmonton–part docu-drama, part horror play–is as horrifying today as it was 400 years ago.

Today, Friday, at the South West area near Queen St. West a bicycle service station organized by the Toronto Cyclists Union will be held from 4pm to 7pm. www.bikeunion.to
The Toronto Cyclists Union’s Bicycle Service Station is a chance to bring bike advocacy to the street and make the bike union more accessible to Toronto's cycling community, while providing them access to a complimentary bike safety check.
This campaign has several goals and objectives.
1) to engage the cycling community in cycling advocacy and green issues, especially as Toronto nears the fall municipal election.
2) to increase cycling ridership in Toronto through increased visibility and uptake of cycling as a healthy and green transportation option.
The Interfaith Family Potluck Picnic welcomes all faith communities in the Trinity-Spadina riding to show support of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals. Canada committed in the year 2000 to spare no effort to fulfill these eight goals about global poverty, health and the environment by 2015. The Honourable OLIVIA CHOW, MP will speak about what Canada is doing to fulfill our promise to the developing world. We will be sharing our picnic lunches at the S-W picnic spot near Queen St. West. The picnic is hosted by Toronto Alliance Church and Knox Presbyterian Church. For more information contact sara@jasonhildebrand.com.

Labour movement announces new plans for Toronto G20 rally and march
(TORONTO) - In view of the ongoing concerns expressed by the residents of Trinity Bellwoods, the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Canadian Labour Congress and our partners in the June 26 rally have agreed to move the event to Queen’s Park.
“We have been listening carefully to the mounting concerns and on the basis of what we have heard, we are revising our plans,” says OFL President Sid Ryan. “Our quarrel should not be with each other, but with the leaders of the wealthiest and most powerful nations who are responsible for the world’s worsening economic and social conditions.”
